FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 10, 2017 Richmond, VA – Robins Foundation, a private family foundation dedicated to making the Richmond region greater through innovative philanthropy that supports education-based opportunities has awarded four grants totaling $500,000 to a strategic partnership cohort consisting of Richmond, Petersburg, Henrico and Chesterfield County Public Schools and their corresponding Education Foundations.
The Strategic Partnership Cohort will serve as a catalyst for regional cooperation and collaboration that builds on current interests and momentum for a more regional approach to addressing poverty, promoting equity, and creating a thriving city and region known for having strong schools that prepare all children, regardless of zip code, for success in school, career, and life. In the past 18 months, major leadership transitions have taken place across the region, resulting in several new leaders in Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield and Petersburg. These leaders bring new ideas and fresh perspectives and are developing relationships across jurisdictions and discussing opportunities to work together.
Pete Gorman Leadership Associates will provide consulting services to Superintendents both collectively and individually. Collective efforts will prioritize and target common areas, while individual superintendent support will be customized to the needs of each school division and its leadership team. Capacity building support and funding will be provided to the individual Education Foundations to strengthen specific areas of infrastructure and support the development and/or implementation of strategic plans at the division level or education foundation level. As an integral partner within the Petersburg City and Schools Partnership, The United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg will serve as the fiscal agent for Petersburg.
Robins Foundation believes this Strategic Partnership Cohort will help to further advance regional efforts and partnerships, which will ultimately lead to improved opportunities and outcomes for children and families in the Richmond area. Investing in this type of program leverages and builds on existing regional initiatives the Foundation has supported such as the Capital Region Collaborative and Bridging Richmond.
Robins Foundation is a private family foundation established in 1957 by E. Claiborne Robins, Sr. founder of A. H. Robins Pharmaceutical Company. The Foundation works to advance the greater Richmond community through strategic partnerships, collaborations, and education, all of which will serve as a model for creating an environment of fairness and opportunity for everyone to thrive.
