Program and Grants Manager
After graduating from the University of Richmond in December 2016, Dan stayed in Richmond for the spring semester of his senior year interning full time at Robins Foundation. After four months, the fit was obvious and he stayed on the team as Special Projects Coordinator where he supervised the internship program, organized events and supported staff with various needs.
Currently, as Program and Grants Manager at Robins Foundation, Dan acts as the entry-point for new relationships with nonprofit partners. He manages all our grantmaking programs, including everything from retaining historical records, building the online applications, communicating grant report requests, and creating grant-related materials for board review.
Dan graduated cum laude from UR with a Bachelor of Arts in international economics and Spanish. He studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina and interned one summer in Ecuador at a nonprofit English language school. Throughout college, Dan worked in the Office of International Education and as a resident assistant.
As an officer of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at The University of Richmond and the National Honor Society in high school, Dan has substantial fundraising experience working toward the charitable goals of those two organizations. Within the Richmond community, Dan serves on the junior boards for a family-focused homeless shelter and an LGBTQ advocacy group. He is currently studying part-time for his MPA at the VCU Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.
TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Growing up, I wanted to be an architect. I was a LEGO aficionado and always vowed to build LEGO models of the buildings I designed as an adult. I dreamed of having large tins of organized LEGOs to easily crank out a model of my newest creation.
What is your favorite thing/place/activity/meal in Richmond?
After growing up on the South Shore of Massachusetts, I have always said I need to be by the ocean but I have genuinely loved exploring the James River. There are always great festivals on Brown’s Island and the rocks at Pony Pasture are relaxing on a nice Saturday!
What is your biggest fear or pet peeve?
While I am admittedly terrified of giant squids (see 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea), I’d like to use this opportunity to poke fun at Courtney and her deadly fear of insects since I know she’ll avoid sharing and instead tell you about her strange “misophonia” thing. But really people, it’s so bad even ladybugs find themselves in peril if they approach her desk.
What is your favorite cereal?
Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, hands down.
Finally, what is the thing you love most about working at Robins?
Working at Robins has been great because of the emphasis all my colleagues put on professional development and continued learning! I am always growing here.
